ABSTRACT

Objective To evaluate the current status of sexual and reproductive health knowledge and behavior of young migrant workers in Shanghai, which would provide information for the development of intervention measures. Methods A cluster random sampling with self-filled questionnaires was used for survey in two factories of Shanghai.The total number of young migrant workers surveyed was 713.The questionnaire contents included socioeconomic characters, knowledge, attitude and behavior of sex and reproductive health. Results There were 428 males and 285 females ranged from 17 to 24 years old.Eighty-eight percent of them were from rural area of China, and 79.7% of them were unmarried.Their awareness of sexual and reproductive health was low, including misunderstandings of sexually transmitted diseases and HIV transmission pathways, and failure to realize the difference between condom and contraceptive pills.Only 46.5% of the males and 31.5% of the females answered correctly about the role of contraceptive pills.Their sexual attitude was open on premarital sex and cohabitation.Males were more tolerant than women; 59.1% of the males thought they could have sex before marriage if they got consent, which was much higher than females (39.6%, P < 0.01).While the rate of premarital sex was high (64.0% in males and 56.1% in females), sexual safety awareness was not strong.The rate of condom use was only 20%, and 12.4% of the females had unwilling pregnancy and abortion. Conclusion The sexual and reproductive health status in young migrant workers need to be improved by strengthening health education and health promotion.

Introducción: la participación de los hombres en la planificación familiar es todavía insuficiente, lo que se traduce en una escasa presencia masculina en estos servicios. Objetivo: identificar los conocimientos y actitudes de varones acerca de la planificación familiar. Métodos: estudio descriptivo de corte transversal con enfoque cuanti-cualitativo en el que participaron 75 compañeros sentimentales de las mujeres que acudieron a la consulta de planificación familiar en los dos policlínicos del municipio Sagua la Grande en la provincia de Villa Clara, en el periodo comprendido entre mayo y julio de 2013. Resultados: los conocimientos y actitudes de los hombres estudiados presentaron brechas desfavorables para la planificación familiar efectiva en la pareja; su escasa utilización y participación de los hombres en las consulta de planificación familiar está influenciada por estos, vinculado a los condicionamientos de género subyacentes. Conclusiones: los conocimientos y actitudes de los compañeros sentimentales de las mujeres que acuden a la consulta no fueron satisfactorios, por lo que se debería profundizar en investigaciones futuras y considerar el tema en los diseños de programas enfocados a la salud sexual y reproductiva de los varones(AU)


Introduction: the participation of men in family planning is still poor, resulting in low rate of male presence in these services. Objective: to identify knowledge and attitudes of males about family planning. Method: cross-sectional and descriptive study with quantitative-qualitative approach and participation of the sexual partners of women who went to the family planning service in two polyclinics located in Sagua La Grande municipality, Villa Clara province, from May to July 2013. Results: the knowledge and attitudes of the studied men showed unfavorable gaps for attaining effective family planning in a couple; their low rate of use of and participation in family planning services was linked to underlying gender conditioning. Conclusions: the knowledge and attitudes of the sexual partners of women who went to the aforementioned service were unsatisfactory, so future research should address in depth this topic and the issue should be considered in the design of sex and reproductive health programs for males(AU)

ABSTRACT

Desde la década de los años setenta del siglo pasado, la Escuela Nacional de Salud Pública ha venido desarrollando actividades académicas e investigativas sobre salud sexual y reproductiva, lo que posibilita que existan condiciones para desarrollar adiestramiento en esta temática. Ha contado con el apoyo brindado por el Fondo de Naciones Unidas para Actividades de Población que durante años ha financiado la ejecución de estas actividades y en sus evaluaciones han existido criterios favorables para su continuación. El presente artículo tiene como objetivo exponer la capacitación de recursos humanos en salud sexual y reproductiva y sus fundamentos más relevantes, entre otros aspectos. Se sustenta en el trabajo desarrollado por las autoras para el diseño del proyecto de capacitación en salud sexual y reproductiva financiado por el Citato Fondo de Naciones Unidas, los talleres ejecutados para la preparación de profesores, la valoración de los programas diseñados y antecedentes sobre los diplomados impartidos por la escuela en esta temática. La capacitación propuesta se concibió como el proceso de proporcionar conocimientos y habilidades a los grupos comunitarios y otros sectores sociales para elevar sus posibilidades de investigar, negociar, ejecutar y evaluar las diferentes acciones intra e intersectoriales que pudieran tener impacto en la mejoría de la salud sexual y reproductiva de la población. Actualmente se desarrollan tres diplomados en los institutos superiores de ciencias médicas de La Habana , Villa Clara y Santiago de Cuba. Los resultados, aún preliminares, hablan a favor de la necesidad y pertinencia de la capacitación propuesta.


Since the 70´s of the last century, the National School of Public Health (ENSAP) have been developing academic and research activities on sex and reproductive health included in the mission of the center, which creates conditions for the development of training in this topic and in other public health disciplines. It has been supported by the United Nations Fund for Population Activities that has financed for years the holding of these activities and its evaluations have given favorable criteria for their continuation. The present paper is aimed at describing the training on sex and reproductive health designed by a group of professores from ENSAP, the most relevant fundamentals and the main experience. It is based on the work carried out by the authors for the design of a training project on sex and reproductive health financed by the UN agency, the workshops for preparation of professors, the assessement of already designed programs and antecedents of diploma's courses on the same topic taught by ENSAP. The social need of continuing working in this sense so as to increase capacity for research, mobilization, negotiation and follow-up of intrasectoral e intersectoral actions. The training proposal is conceived as the process of providing knowledge and abilities to community-based groups and other social sectors so that they can administer, design, implement and evaluate several activities on sex and reproductive health. At present, three diploma´s courses are being given at Higher Institutes of Medical Sciences in Havana, Villa Clara and Santiago de Cuba. The results, although preliminary, speak for the need and relevance of the proposed training course.

ABSTRACT

Objective: To explore senior high school students' knowledge, behavior and attitude toward sex and reproductive health issues. Methods: Questionnaire surveys were carried out in 6 high senior schools in Harbin, the questionnaire was provided by YRH (youth reproductive health) Project Team. Results: The after-school life of our sample included reading, watching movies and television, Internet exploring and playing with partners; 30%-40% of the people had never explore sex topic with their parents. Most of the students had appropriate understanding of adolescent knowledge, but they had less knowledge about reproductive health and contraception; About 30% of students had fallen in lover, only 4.3% of students had intercourse with their partners, and they were lack of awareness and ability to protect themselves from unsafe sex. 31.6% of students think that the main sources of knowledge of adolescent health education in schools. Conclusion: Students in senior high school have showed a more positive and stable attitudes toward life. They have some knowledge about YRH but not systematic.
